Context
The Canadian Friends of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative was created to support activities based on the concept of ‘Gratitude in Action’: the optimal to express gratitude for help received during time of crisis is by offering similar assistance to someone else.
This vision means that not only are urgent humanitarian challenges addressed , but a second chance is given to those who need it the most. “We believe that even in the darkest times, a brighter future is in the hands of those who are committed to giving others help and hope”. Aurora welcomes all who embrace this philosophy and promotes action-based philanthropy focused on tangible results. This is achieved through their various programs, including the annual Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, designed to benefit those in greatest need in countries around the globe.
Sadly it is a truism that hunger, oppression, poverty, and lack of medical and educational resources continue to impact countries and peoples on all continents. Aurora Prize Laureates direct Aurora’s resources and funding to address areas of greatest concern facing the most vulnerable of our sisters and brothers.
Goals
Alleviate human struggles in the areas of health, education and poverty relief by supporting charitable projects around the world where the need is greatest.
Activities
Myriad Canada will work with future Aurora Prize Laureates to identify organizations carrying out important and impactful work and support and implement charitable projects to help alleviate conditions such as inadequate health care, poverty and hunger, lack of access to education, and various forms of social and economic oppression.
Projects may include things like providing medicine, food and transportation to individuals in need at a hospital in Sudan; general and maternal medical care for Rohingya people in IDP camps in Myanmar; and economic empowerment for women in Afghanistan.
Myriad Canada is working on this project with the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that seeks to address on-the-ground humanitarian challenges around the world with the focus on helping the most destitute. Its mission is rooted in the Armenian history as the Initiative was founded on behalf of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide and in gratitude to their saviors and strives to transform this experience into a global movement.
Myriad Canada’s role is to carry out charitable projects across the globe in accordance with its charitable purposes. We control and monitor the use of funds and the progress of charitable activities to ensure that donations made to Myriad Canada have the greatest impact in accordance with donors’ expressed wishes. As a member of the Myriad Alliance with offices in Canada, the US, Europe, Asia and Australia, Myriad Canada has a vast international network and extensive practical expertise.
