Context
For several years, Myriad Canada has been working in collaboration with the Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) in Lebanon to support underprivileged students in their pursuit of higher education. We strongly believe that no student should be denied access to university because of financial difficulties.
In 2025, Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) will celebrate 150 years of excellence and dedication to education, health and innovation. To mark the occasion, the Fundraising Campaign for the 150 years of USJ “USJ, Aspire for More” was launched, with the aim of raising 150 million USD over the next 10 years to ensure USJ’s continued existence.
One of the key priorities of this campaign is “More Education” with the aim of raising 15 million USD. According to Prof. Salim Daccache s.j., Rector of USJ, “education is not a luxury, but the foundation of the nation”. The objective is therefore to ensure that every student who wishes to enter and graduate from USJ, a university renowned for its excellence, can do so.
In 2022-2023, USJ already awarded scholarships to 53% of its students based on academic and social criteria. In the same year, the budget for scholarships and financial aid to students reached 8.5 million USD. The average tuition fee per student is 10,000 USD per year.
Goals
Increase accessibility, quality and equality of educational opportunities at Saint Joseph University of Beirut.
Activities

MYRIAD CANADA is working with the Fondation USJ on this project. USJ is a private Lebanese university founded in 1875 by the Jesuit Fathers in Beirut, with 13 Faculties, 21 Institutes and Schools, 8 Campuses in Lebanon and over 100,000 Alumni. The University’s mission revolves around three dimensions: the creation of new knowledge, the transmission of this knowledge, and the putting of this knowledge at the service of society.
Founded in Lebanon in 2015 by the Rector, Pr Salim Daccache s.j., the Fondation USJ is the main entity authorized to solicit and receive donations from Alumni, friends, and any person or institution wishing to support the mission of USJ and Hôtel-Dieu de France, the University Hospital. Fondation USJ aims to support the excellence and development of USJ and the hospital in their academic, social and medical missions.
